28

Quote of the Day...

Audry: Megan, tell Mrs. Ruth whose birthday party you went to this weekend?

Megan: Mine.

Audry: Ha, no Megan...yesterday. Whose party did you go to yesterday? Was it Peachy's?

Megan: Yes! Peachy's! (Peachy is her grandfather.)

Audry: And how old is Peachy?

Megan (thinking...thinking...thinking...): Old.

Speaking of birthdays and getting old...it's-a my birthday!! Yay!! Congrats...to me. Today, I'll be 28. I'm not 28 yet...not until 4:00 p.m. Mom labored with me for a whole week (no drugs), they had to induce her 7 times, I cried non-stop until I was two years old, blah blah...whatevs, I'm here! I made it! And aren't you glad, Mom? It wouldn't be half as fun without me. And you'd be stuck with just Sara, Noah, and Peter.

I don't mind getting older. In fact, I welcome it. It's like Rebecca said, "The older you get, the more you can get away with stuff." SO TRUE! I like the phases of life that getting older brings. I loved my time with David as newlyweds (21 & 22). I loved traveling all over with him, just the two of us. I love having our girls. I'm looking forward to their first birthday and everything else to come. Getting older just means you get to do more cool stuff.

Sweet Hugs asked what I wanted for my birthday and I told him I already had everything I wanted. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. But at my desk this morning was an array of goodies...some Milano cookies, heck yes. A GINORMOUS Toblerone bar. Some assorted chocolates. And a card that I have yet to open. Such a sweetie. I told him I didn't want to do anything fancy and that my idea of a perfect birthday was to spend the evening with him and a chocolate ice cream cake and to go shopping this weekend. I WIN! David called about 57 places in town to get me an ice cream cake. Uh, how about Dairy Queen just does ice cream cakes...like, no cake part, just ice cream. Whaaaaat? That's weird. I don't like Publix's whipped icing. Apparently, there isn't a Baskin Robbins within 100 miles of us (which makes those obnoxious, yet catchy, "ice creamy cakey cake, ice creamy cakey cake, ice creamy cake do the ice creamy cake" songs completely pointless for this market). So, David set off to make me one. Presh. Last night, we made the cake and ice cream layers. David made this AMAZING icing. Tonight, we're assembling. I have pictures. It's going to be awesome. He always makes everything so special.

And Katie Christmas has already made it special, too. She asked me the other day, "You're turning 28? I thought you were going to be 25!" And THAT, Katie, is why you're in my will.

So, feel free to call and serenade me. I'm sure you'll be no match for the serenade I got this morning from Davey...humming in the shower at 5:45 a.m. I serenaded him with a little ditty of my own...goes a little something like this:

I love youuuu, oh baby, yeah
I will unleash the wrath of a thousand warriors
on your face
if you don't stop humming
at 5:45 in the morning. Yeaaaaaah.

Helloooooo, 28!!! I mean...25.
